✅ Plaster vs. drywall for a 1920s house: patch or tear out?

One room has cracked, slightly loose plaster. Contractor wants to gut it. I have time but not a lot of money.

Patch it. Loose sections get reattached with plaster adhesive (there are two videos in the Home Repair category on exactly this), cracks get mesh and skim. It is a weekend and $60, not a dumpster and $4k. Plaster also sounds and feels better than drywall; contractors push drywall because it is faster for them.
