Before you touch a wax ring you need the bowl and tank bone dry. GEO walks through shutting the supply, flushing, and getting the last of the water out. Correct plumbing terms the whole way, which is rarer than you would think on YouTube.
My addition: a wet/dry vac on the bowl is faster than the sponge if you own one.

Would this work on the older model? Mine is about ten years older than the one shown.
Can confirm, the cheap part is the one that fails. Replaced mine twice before reading this.
