Pegboard vs slatwall vs French cleat: honest comparison after owning all three
Difficultyeasy
Pegboard: cheapest, fast, hooks fall off when you grab a tool, 1/4" board sags. Fine for a hand-tool wall with the locking hooks.
Slatwall (PVC): clean look, strong, huge accessory ecosystem, $8 to $12 per square foot. The right answer if you want it to look like a showroom.
French cleats: nearly free, strongest, infinitely customizable, holders take time to build, looks like a workshop. The right answer if you enjoy making things.
Most garages I have done: cleats on the work wall, slatwall or pegboard by the door for keys/leashes/bike gear, overhead racks for bins.

Followed along, got it done in about twice the time quoted, but it is done and it works.
The "what went wrong" section is the most useful part of this. More people should do that.
Yep, same here. The second time is always faster.
