Tongsheng TSDZ2: the torque-sensing mid-drive that feels like a real bike
Difficultymedium
The TSDZ2 is cheaper than a Bafang and has a torque sensor: it adds power in proportion to how hard you pedal instead of just spinning when the cranks move. The ride feel is far more natural. Weak points: the stock firmware is mediocre (the open-source firmware fixes that), the blue plastic gear strips if you lug it (replace with the brass one), and it is not a hill monster at 36V. For a commuter who wants to feel like a strong version of themselves, it is my pick.

Nice. What did the whole thing end up costing you?
Yep, same here. The second time is always faster.
This is the kind of post that makes this place worth it.
Upvoted for the safety notes alone.
Tried this over the weekend and it worked first time. Thanks for writing it up properly.
Would this work on the older model? Mine is about ten years older than the one shown.
