Front-load washer will not drain: clean the coin trap before you call anyone
Difficultyeasy
Time20 minutes
Costfree
Every front loader has a small filter in front of the drain pump, behind a little door at the bottom front. Put towels down, open it slowly, and prepare to find socks, bobby pins, coins and a hair tie from 2019.
If it is clear and the washer still will not drain, pull the pump and spin the impeller by hand. If it is stiff or wobbly, the pump is $25 to $40 and held in by two screws and a hose clamp.
Do this every six months and you will never see the drain error again.

- towels

Solid. Sending this to my brother who keeps asking me to fix his.
Right around what the post says, give or take shipping.
I did the same repair last month and your step 3 is where I got stuck. Wish I had this then.
Unplug it. Always. Takes two seconds and the worst case otherwise is a trip to the ER.
This is the kind of post that makes this place worth it.
Should be the same procedure, the part moved slightly but the steps match.
The "what went wrong" section is the most useful part of this. More people should do that.
Tried this over the weekend and it worked first time. Thanks for writing it up properly.

Can confirm, the cheap part is the one that fails. Replaced mine twice before reading this.
